Tom and son James
Tom is an owner of B3 and its founder. In 1992 when Tom and his wife, Kathleen, committed to purchase of the old Maskell hardware building at Mack and Cadieux, he envisioned a sports shop that would sell and service products for the seasonal recreational activities of residents of Grosse Point Park and its surrounding communities. With his nephew and co-owner Phil Richards, they developed a strategy for selling and servicing: bikes and inline skates for the spring – fall season, snowboards for the winter season and hockey equipment for year round needs of the hockey enthusiast. They complemented these products with accessories, clothing and skateboards. The product mix led to the name “Bikes, Blades & Boards” and the “B3” logo. Since its opening in April 1993, B3 has experienced a steady growth in sales thanks to its dedicated staff and the strong support of its loyal customers. We look forward to continued growth and the opportunity to better serve our customers with the newest and best products and continued quality service.

Tom serves as B3’s President and legal consultant. He enjoys cycling, boarding, sailing and golfing among other recreational pursuits. He has participated in several organized cycling events including the Zoo De Mack 51 mile bike ride. He is a regular participant in the Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot 10K run.

Rick Teranes is a lifetime resident of Grosse Pointe and was B3's first employee when we opened our doors in 1993. With 24 plus years in the bicycle business, it goes without saying that Rick knows bicycles. His mechanical instincts give him great problem solving skills. Come in and test him if you dare!

Rick is the resident "green" employee and puts more miles on his bike than his car (he rides rain or shine) Rick and his wife have two children and enjoy camping, travel and long summer days. A great competitor, Rick has raced road, MTB, and cyclocross as well as completing the Detroit Marathon.
Bryan is B3's hockey specialist. As a native of Grosse Pointe, Bryan has been playing hockey for more than 25 years. Bryan has been with B3 for 13 years and has learned the business from the ground up; and with a memory like a steel trap, is invaluable when discussing prior year’s products or music trivia! Bryan is an avid Mountain biker, golfer; he loves the Red Wings, Pink Floyd, single malt scotch, his girlfriend and chocolate chip cookies. For a great edge, come in and see Bryan.
Frank originally joined the B3 family in 1996. After a decade long hiatus, Frank has re-joined our staff in the summer of 2010. Besides cycling and snowboarding, Frank's other passion is skateboarding. He believes that action-sports are a viable alternative when it comes to maintaining balance and a healthy lifestyle.
Phil Richards is one of the two owners of B3. He and Tom McGovern brainstormed the B3 concept in 1993; opened our doors in the Spring of that year and we have been rolling since then serving the greater Grosse Pointe communities as well as St. Clair Shores and the east side of Detroit. Phil has worked in the outdoor industry for over 27 years and brings a variety of skills to our business. As a construction management graduate from MSU, you can ask him or the staff what project he has planned next to keep our business vital. He regularly annoys the staff with music trivia and stories from the 1970's.

Phil loves telemark skiing, vacations that take him cycling around the world with his wife, and backpacking when time allows (he still maintains a goal of completing all of the 52 14k peaks in Colorado and has already tackled Mt. Rainier). Both Phil and his wife Maryann reside in Grosse Pointe since moving here from Colorado in 1995.
Maryann Richards is a native of Colorado and grew up with the Rocky Mountains as her playground, enjoying cycling, skiing, hiking, backpacking and climbing those 52 14k peaks. She too has completed Mt. Rainier with her husband Phil and looks forward to finishing their bucket list together. Maryann’s background is in finance and IT and brings those skills to B3 to manage our technical needs as well as our accounting functions and advertising and promotions in the community.

Maryann has a keen eye for fashion and design and lends those strengths to our clothing selections and inventory. She is passionate about health, fitness (a Pilates trainer), gardening, travel, and both road and mountain biking; suffice it to say, no moss grows under her wheels! Maryann and Phil relocated to Grosse Pointe from Colorado in 1995.
Born and raised in Traverse City, I was blessed with surroundings that allowed my passion for the outdoors to thrive. At a young age, I began racing sailboats and instantly found one of my favorite recreational obsessions. I traded in my skis for a snowboard at the age of 11 and never looked back. I have a love for all animals that is evident in my daily life. My dog, Grommet, has become part of the B3 family and can be found wandering the shop happily greeting customers.
"Tour de Frog" was created and designed Grosse Pointe artist Nance Aitcheson. The frog was sponsored by Bike Blades & Boards for "Frog for Friends", a charity to benefit the Grosse Pointe animal adoption society. A friend of B3 purchased her at the auction and donated it to B3 to serve as its mascot. The frog is proudly perched on top of the east side of the building guarding the parking lot.
